Coming off a USPHL Pacific Division championship the Ontario Jr. Reign have bolstered their coaching staff by adding new assistant coach Coby Downs.

Downs returns to his home state, from where he will be coaching in the same town where he started his hockey career. As the memories of playing in the same rink where he will now be coaching brings a tremendous sense of excitement.

“It's definitely a full circle moment,” said Downs  “This is where I started, and then this is where I’m starting a new chapter of my life, so it's definitely exciting.”

Joining the defending Pacific Division champions, winning comes natural to Downs. His storied playing career included capturing the SJHL Canterra Seeds Cup trophy with the Battlefords North Stars, tallying 21 assists during that championship run.  Not to be out done, Downs collegiate career continued with those winning way capturing three consecutive NEHC titles with Norwich University as a significant scoring threat in each of the three seasons.

“I think that the one thing I can definitely provide for the Reign is leadership and winning, and helping players develop. I could help elevate players' games and kind of give them a new mindset on the way they think and the way they approach the game.” said Downs

There is a lot to look forward to for this upcoming season as the Reign are making more offseason moves than just behind the bench. Downs shared what he is mostly looking forward to this upcoming season.

“I'm excited to start the season, it's gonna be fun, I already know it's gonna be,” said Downs. “I'm just looking forward to being with the guys teaching them and helping them.”
