A CAPTAIN'S FAREWELL : CAPTAIN ADAM LAYDEN COMMITS TO Drury University in the ACHA

by Cesar Rivas

The Ontario Jr. Reign is honored to announce our captain Adam Layden has committed to Drury University in Springfield, Missouri, to be a part of their Division 1 ACHA program for the second half of the season. Layden plans to major in business management and marketing.

“I chose Drury because it's a good school, they run a very successful hockey program, and it was a place that I felt I could grow personally and hockey wise,” Layden said. “I felt like they gave me the best chances on moving forward and I'm just excited for the opportunity.”

Layden was first identified by head coach and general manager Jeremy Blumes in 2022 at the annual Saskatoon showcase. Following camp, Layden signed with the OJR for the 2022-2023 season.

During his first stint with the Jr. Reign, the defenseman from Calgary, Alberta, Canada registered 21 points that included 3 goals, 18 assists, a staggering +53 and as well as a physical and dominant  presence on the ice.

Layden returned to the Jr. Reign this year after a season in the SIJHL with the Kam River Fighting Walleye.

Through 26 games, Layden tallied four goals and nine assists, as well as demonstrating  leadership abilities both off the ice and on the ice on the penalty kill unit blocking shots, or leading the attack.

Head coach and GM Jeremy Blumes “We will miss Adam’s presence, he is a hard working, intelligent young man. His preparation and care was always fantastic. We are grateful for the time he spent within this program and is a great example of the student athletes that we are looking to promote from within, we wish him nothing but the best in this next step as a student-athlete.”

Layden says his favorite moments with the Jr. Reign were simply showing up at the rink and spending time with the boys, as both groups were filled with great people.

Our organization prides itself in the primary objective of player development both on and off the ice, through our core values of hockey, education and life skills.

“I want to thank everyone that's a part of the organization from the top down, coaching staff, teammates and support staff,” Layden said. “I was very fortunate to be able to play with great players and great guys.”

The Ontario Jr. Reign would like to congratulate Adam and the entire Layden family for this achievement, and we can’t wait to see what you do at the next level.
